The ‘Association of Friends of the Museum of Kent Life' is registered as a charity and strives to promote, support, project and safeguard the interests, aims and objectives of Kent Life and it's collection.
The 'Friends' are seen at many of the events, helping to bring history back to life, using time-honoured traditions and techniques and re-living bygone years. Whether it be working in the hop garden and picking the hops by hand or crushing and pressing our harvested apples in the antique cider press.
The ‘Friends’ also assist in facilitating our many Education Theme Days, including the popular WWII, Victorians, Romans and Tudors, and are often dressed in period costume to reflect the era of the theme or our many historic buildings.
Behind the Scenes
The Friends are a vital resource to Kent Life and participate in many additional working parties which help to maintain the beauty and authenticity of our beautiful museum and attraction.
- Restoring large items of historic agricultural machinery
- Assisting with the care, conservation and cataloguing of the many artefacts in store
- Managing the Kent County Show and Living Land Exhibitions
- Historical research
- Maintaining the appearance of the historic buildings and houses
- Stringing and twiddling in the hop garden
- Arranging flowers in the Chapel
Providing this care for Kent Life's exhibits and artefact enables ‘Friends’ to get close to and learn so much about this fascinating collection of Kent’s rural history. New members are always welcome, for more information please contact the Friends Membership Secretary at Kent Life.
