Learning and discovery are at the core of Kent Life. People learn in different ways and require different stimuli to engage them. Kent Life is ideally placed to provide varied, stimulating and enjoyable learning experiences for all ages and abilities though its artefacts, historic buildings, gardens and animals.
Visitors are invited to use all their senses to explore our extensive collection of objects and buildings relating to 16th – 20th century rural life in Kent. Visit the animals in the Farmyard, feel the wood of the apple sorting machine, sit in the hard pews and school desks in the Historical Schoolroom and smell the hops whilst listening to the traditional Hopping songs played in the Oast House.
Our Learning and Access programme is designed to enhance these sensory experiences and bring the past to life. We offer a wide-ranging programme of demonstrations, workshops and guided tours, as well as talks on a variety of subjects, including history, art, animals, gardening and many more.
Kent Life is committed to enhance the learning of people of all ages and abilities and would like to stress that all workshops and demonstrations will be tailored to the particular needs and abilities of your group or class. Please contact the Learning & Access Officers to discuss the requirements of your group.
Passport to Learning (Learning in the Wild)
Kent Life is pleased to be a host venue for the Kent County Council scheme 'Learning in the Wild'. The programme allows children to take part in accredited Kent Children’s University activities at a range of venues throughout the county. At Kent Life, children (and their parents!) can complete two entertaining and informative worksheets during their visit. They will be given a sticker worth one credit towards a 'Children's University Certificate'. Just ask at the admissions centre for a Learning in the Wild pack when you arrive.
