| Lenham Cottage
In 1999, the Grade II listed Old & Water Street Cottage (Now Lenham Cottages) lay virtually in the path of the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link. The Cottages would effectively have ended up being sandwiched on an island between the M20 motorway and the Rail Link. Union Railways (South) Ltd, which had the contract to build the link, offered the Cottages and the necessary funding for re-location to Kent Life. Dismantling commenced in June 1999 and was completed in fourteen weeks. Repairs to the Cottages took twelve weeks. Much was intact due to the isolated position of the Cottages; and reconstruction began in Janauary 2000 and took fourteen months. The Cottages were open to the public in July 2001. Lenham Cottage houses an interpretation of the history of the building, as well as various hands-on building exhibits. Lenham Cottage has been finished as a 1940's house.
